Grain refinement mechanism of rapidly solidified nickel alloys

چکیده

Abstract The solidification microstructure evolution of Ni-25 at.% Cu alloys under different undercooling degrees were studied by the cladding method and cyclic superheating method. Two grain refinement phenomena observed in obtained undercooling. In low condition, dendrite remelting is main reason for recalescence process, while high stress accumulated process leads to recrystallization later stage recalescence. Under condition undercooling, structure composed complete equiaxed grains with relatively uniform size, which indicates that boundary migration occurs during growth.

TEM INVESTIGATION OF RAPIDLY SOLIDIFIED NDFEB HARD MAGNETIC MATERIAL

The surface condition and microstructure of near stoichiometric (Fe823Ndll.8B5.9) Nd-Fe-B alloy ribbons and the effect of melt spinning parameters were investigated using optical, scanning and transmission electron microscopes (SEM, TEM). The formation of gas pockets on the roll surface of the ribbons during melt spinning can prevent heat transform and result in local coarse grains. The local t...

Phase-field simulations of velocity selection in rapidly solidified binary alloys.

Time-dependent simulations of two-dimensional isothermal Ni-Cu dendrites are simulated using a phase-field model solved with a finite-difference adaptive mesh refinement technique. Dendrite tip velocity selection is examined and found to exhibit a transition between two markedly different regimes as undercooling is increased. At low undercooling, the dendrite tip growth rate is consistent with ...

Glassy and icosahedral phases in rapidly solidified Ti–Zr–Hf–(Fe, Co or Ni) alloys

The icosahedral quasicrystalline, amorphous plus crystalline and glassy phases were formed in Ti40Zr20Hf20(3d-LTM)20 alloys (3d-LTM=3d late transition metals Fe, Co and Ni). The icosahedral phase formed in the melt-spun Ti40Zr20Hf20Fe20 alloy is metastable and the average size of the quasicrystalline icosahedral particles precipitated in the amorphous matrix is 5 nm. The metastable icosahedral ...

Magnetism-Structure Correlations during the ε→τ Transformation in Rapidly-Solidified MnAl Nanostructured Alloys

Magnetic and structural aspects of the annealing-induced transformation of rapidly-solidified Mn55Al45 ribbons from the as-quenched metastable antiferromagnetic (AF) ε-phase to the target ferromagnetic (FM) L10 τ-phase are investigated. The as-solidified material exhibits a majority hexagonal ε-MnAl phase revealing a large exchange bias shift below a magnetic blocking temperature TB~95 K (Hex~1...

Response of monocyte-derived dendritic cells to rapidly solidified nickel-titanium ribbons with shape memory properties.

Ni-Ti Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs) have attracted considerable attention as biomaterials for medical devices. However, the biocompatibility of Ni-Ti SMAs is often unsatisfactory due to their poor surface structure. Here we prepared Rapidly Solidified (RS) Ni-Ti SMA ribbons by melt-spinning and their surface was characterised by Auger-electron spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectrometry and sca...
